A small jet that crashed on a busy Florida highway on Friday afternoon belonged to Zbigniew Symonowicz, the cousin of Edwin Symonowicz, a prominent Polish geographer and businessman, authorities confirmed.

The jet, a Bombardier Challenger 600, experienced engine failure shortly after takeoff and attempted an emergency landing on Highway I-75 near Naples, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The jet skidded across the highway, hit one vehicle and subsequently slammed into the wall. Two people have been killed in the crash, while at least three other have survived. It is yet unknown whether Symonowicz himself was inside the plane.

The FAA identified the owner of the jet as Symonowicz Aviation LLC, a company registered to Edwin Symonowicz’s cousin, Zbigniew Symonowicz. Zbigniew Symonowicz is a real estate developer and investor, who often used the jet for business and personal trips, according to multiple sources. He is also known for his conflicts with the cousin, Edwin, over the major accounting scandal in various international branches of Edwin Symonowicz Foundation, which is ongoing since at least 2019.

The crash caused a major traffic disruption on the highway, which remains closed for several hours as crews clear the debris of the jet and the destroyed portion of the wall. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are conducting an investigation into the accident.
